Here we protect and keep alive old vineyards planted even a century ago, with an organic approach and the maximum respect of biodiversity.
Oltretorrente cellar and vineyards are located in Paderna in the evocative hilly area of Tortona. The winery estate extends for about seven hectares of vineyards facing North and South and predominantly planted with Barbera and Timorasso.
The uniqueness of the wines of Oltretorrente is given by plants characteristics. All the old vines are different from each other and have been selected many years ago in the same environment in which they are grown today, while maintaining the link between plant and territory, so that the resulting wine is something unreproducible elsewhere. Furthermore many varieties were traditionally planted together in the same vineyard, adding even more diversity to grapes and complexity to wine.
"Harvest is done by hand and in small boxes to select and pick up only healthy grapes and not to break anything while moving them to the cellar."
The harvest is done by hand in small boxes to select and collect only the healthiest grapes and to take them in the wine cellar perfectly intact.
Old vineyards have significantly lower yields, but this is of benefit to the complexity and structure of wines: in fact the old vines produce less but the plants are more balanced and grapes are more rich, deep and well balanced in their characteristics.
